In 1976, after finishing his studies in Chicago, Jeff Koons hitchhiked to New York to try his luck.Thirty seven years later, his sculpture "Balloon Dog" would become the most expensive work of art created by a living artist to be sold at an auction. It's not surprising! Jeff Koons is one of the most important artists of the last two decades, making us think more deeply about everyday objects and modern issues such as consumerism and fame.

In recognition of his contribution to the arts, the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC is honouring the American artist with a retrospective. The museum has never dedicated such ahuge space to the work of a single artist before. In addition to works dating from the beginning of his career to the present, a gigantic "Balloon Dog" - a symbol of Koons' success – takes centre stage.

Anyone planning a visit to the city that never sleeps must stop at the Whitney. It's just as important as a walk around the Meatpacking District!
